AUTOR/A

SEVE, LUCIEN

Sève, Lucien (b. 1926). Marxist philosopher. Born in Chambéry, he studied philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure, passing the agrégation in 1949, and subsequently taught in several provincial lycées. He joined the PCF in 1950, was elected to its Central Committee in 1961, and subsequently directed its publishing house, Éditions Sociales. Sève's early writings were polemical assertions of Stalinist orthodoxy but, prompted by educational and psychological concerns, he developed an innovative theory of the social construction of personality. His philosophical synthesis, Une introduction à la philosophie marxiste (1980), drew strongly on Hegelian dialectics, and proved productive in debates on religion and the ethical implications of scientific advance, especially in biology.

[Michael Kelly]

Read more: http://www.answers.com/topic/lucien-s-ve#ixzz2EC6V29YP
